need correct mass air flow sensor guidance Pelican?
2000 S, WPOCB2981YU664064
Pelican parts list several that all have the "green message" this one fits. Which one is correct? My car seems so go through these like candy, maybe I have yet to buy the correct one? Demetri? |
I recently worked through some issues with my 2000S
here's what i found: MAF sensor: Porsche number / 996.606.124.00 / bosch / 0.280.219.009 Hope this helps. |
Don't use off brand sensors. They do not last.
Use Bosch only when buying MAF or O2 sensors. If your using an air filter like a K&N that requires that it be "oiled" they destroy MAF sensors rather quickly. |
Rest of story
Thank you, I have ordered a bosch 986-606-124-00.
in early 2000 but after my car was produced, Porsche changed the AMS/MAF and released a TSB to that effect. They rolled to the later AMS/MAF. However this involved a software upgrade. My car has not had the upgrade, consequently I cannot use a later MAF. Sunset Porsche, closest to me, told me that because this change was a TSB, not a recall, the software upgrade is a chargeable service. The want $188 for the software. I suppose when I cannot get the old MAF, I will have to cough up. Disappointing that they charge for this. Thank you all for your input on this issue. |
As the part change was a TSB and not a recall, they are entitled to charge for the software update to the car required to use the newer and improved part number.

https://sites.google.com/site/mikefocke2/checkenginelightcausedbymassairflowsensor has a cross reference list near the bottom. Some theory of operations info and some info on tools needed for a replacement or cleaning. Do try cleaning first and resetting.
