Airbag light

When the airbag light is on, does that just indicate that a fault has been detected or does it also indicate the the entire system is disabled?

Ike,
My understanding is that if you get an airbag light the entire system will be disabled.
Airbags are explosive devices. So when there is an issue the system is disabled due to potential liability issues.

That's what I figured too, but an "all or nothing" system seems like a liability in and of itself.

Not quite correct; it depends upon why the light is on (which code). For example, if the deceleration sensor or control module is offline, everything is disabled; if just one air bag circuit is disconnected or shorted, only that air bag is offline. Systems also vary by model year, later ones being more sophisticated than the earlier ones.

Thanks for the clarification.!

That makes more sense, thank you!
