How do you change the windscreen lock harness?
 

My windscreen has been rattling on the driver's side and I found out what happened, somehow one of the clips broke. I want to change it out but I have on clue how to remove it, I couldn't find it anywhere in the Bentley manual either. Does anyone know the part #?

Apparently, it comes in a kit of various windscreen parts. My parts catalog is a bit old, but this should get you on the right track: 986 561 323 00

Call Sunset with this part number and ask them if it's the right thing.

I haven't the foggiest idea of how it attaches. I'd say pry it off, but that may not be a good idea. Someone like MNBoxster or Tool Pants will know though.

From what I remember it's riveted on. You'll need to drill it out to get it off.

Man I hope your wrong. If your right I will wedge some dynamat in there and hope it works.

All i did was get a circle shaped plush tap....Used to place under lamps, speakers and other stuff that could scrape the surface of wood or what not...Then i placed it on the hump that the bottom center of the windscreen sits on top of to lift the screen into the latches that hold the 2 corners of screen, pretty much stops it from rattling... My latches broke in the same spot also, Its sort of a curved peice of plastic, The Plush tabs will insulate that noise quite well.

I also replaced the 3 rubber tabs from my black plastic honey comb windscreens behind the driver and passenger seats with these soft plush tabs. They are alittle thicker than the rubber and they totally stopped the rattle from the screens.

A sheet of almost 50 of these tabs cost me $1.99 at Home Depot.... Goto the Door Knob section of Home Depot and they will be there.

Good idea! I just finished putting some Dynamat in the area where the clip was supposed to be,its nice and tight now. Let's just see how it holds up when I'm on the freeway.

BTW you may want to reinforce that top shelf of John Wayne VHS cassettes with a 2x4 and also stop stealing the United States Post Offices clear tape...isnt 1 roll enough!!?!?! :D

I'm not sure about the part number, but it is riveted. You have to pry off the padding, which will scare the crap out of you. (If you decide the route of replacing the part). When I did it this summer to install a windscreen, I couldn't believe I was ripping apart my brand new car, but it worked fine. Tool Pants has an excellent thread somewhere with pictures.

The windscreen fasteners come as a kit (about $25) with the two roll bar latches and the bottom center piece and has been stated, are riveted in place. The roll bar padding needs to come off to access the rivets. Pry up from the outside bottom edge with a soft tool and they pop right off. Drill out the rivet and replace the side fastener along with a new rivet. When I bought my car the passenger side fastener was broken, and I managed to break the driver's side fastener trying to figure how it worked, so I had no choice but to replace both sides. Kind of scary pulling things apart on a new-to-me car but a simple proceedure overall.
