Auto-X Paint protection

I want to auto-x my 2005 Boxster S (2200 miles on it now.) I am NOT going to do this on a monthly basis, but want to keep the paint as "new" as possible. I do NOT want a permanent clear bra (my car is Speed Yellow.)

What can I use to prevent paint chips and scratches from the cones? I heard about shelf liner, masking tape etc. Does anyone know of something that works well and is easy to remove too?

Thanks!

I use a vinyl car bra. Its handy to have on long road trips too and during
winter when there's lots of gravel and salt on the roads.
In addition to the bra I tape up the side skirts and and around the
wheel well arches because the r-comps pick up everything and kick it back

The usual blue painter's tape from Home
Despot or Lowes is the choice of most.
The Boxster hood is made of aluminum so the magnetic hood covers
often found at track events won't stay on. You shold be ok with the bra.
Or you could buy a really big broom and sweep up the racing line you would
make lots of friends!

Cones don't leave scratches, they leave black marks that can be washed off....

I put a nice dent in my car last month hitting a cone doing about 70MPH at an autocross event. Unfortunately that did not rub out. All the marks that are normally left by cones do come right off with a little scrubing.

Is this something new? My 2001 has either a steel hood or the all-new Porsche magnetic aluminum. The track number on my hood is made from magnetic sheeting, stays on fine.

"I do NOT want a permanent clear bra (my car is Speed Yellow.)"

You shouldn't have a problem. They constantly improve the quality of the films. Ask around and go for the option (full hood) that minimizes visible edges. On a light color like yours, people won't be able to see it even if they tried.

If you are adamant against it, then go with the OEM Porsche bra (bmus' post), but make sure that it's always perfectly clean on the inside and that you place it on a perfectly clean car.

The cheapest (and not too bad option) would be to just tape up critical areas with blue painters tape. Easy on, easy off with no marks.

Porsche does now have (allegedly) a traditional bra for the 987 987S. I have one on order down at my dealer Pioneer.

170.00 bucks or so if I remember correctly.

I have always liked the look of a black bra on a white car. Or a black bra on most any color girl for that matter

Strictly for road trips, and I wanna give auto-x and DE a try.

Dealer said mirror bras are not available yet. Doesn't Porsche use the same mirrors on the 911?

Bra's on cars = Just my IMHO. A bra looks way worse than a couple paint knicks/chps.
