Red calipers and "Porsche" lettering always look great!

RandallNeighbour 11-04-2006 07:30 PM

I spent most of my day today painting my calipers red and just fifteen minutes ago put on my white caliper letters from xenonmods.com. I bought silver bulbs from him for the tail lamps and side markers earlier this year. He has a good business nickel and diming me to death!

I am glad this little project is over. Having all the wheels off and the car up in the air with jack stands, a floor jack and the jack that came with the car was not making me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

The results are great though, and I'm planning on taking some pix of the car with the new carrera lights and red calipers for everyone tomorrow.

Randall and Djomlas, did you put a clear coating over the letters?

Bob O 11-04-2006 07:51 PM

I painted the calipers red and put the decals (from xenonmods) on all four wheels. Then clear coated them. The decals look great. The calipers did too, until I changed brake pads a couple of times for DE's :(

I'd post some pics but, the computer the pics are on crashed, or rather got an incurable bug, a few months ago and I haven't been able to transfer them to this one.

I didn't even think about clear coating the letters.

What should I buy to clear coat them? Do they make high-temp clear coat paint?

djomlas 11-04-2006 08:32 PM

i painted mine one caliper at time, with a huge jack that i have, dont trucst that puny looking porsche one at all.

and having all 4 wheels off w that on, i dunno man...thats asking for something bad to happen w crappy jacks

I used dupli-color engine enamel clear. Painted the calipers red, several coats, applied the decals, then sprayed the clear over the entire caliper (as much as I could without removing it). It came out great, and has withstood several DE's and normal driving for about 9 months. The only problem has been with changing the pads. Removing the pin has chipped the paint around the pin hole a bit, but its not enough to worry about and, unless you're bending over looking at it you can't see it.

hmmm i never thought about clear coating the decals. from what i see so far, they still look brand new. i have the white decals on yellow calipers, and they are still perfect.

but great idea to of clear coated the decals on.
