new Road & Track

Got my copy last night, read with pleasure Peter Egan's article on finding the perfect sportscar - a 2001 Boxster S.
I've enjoyed his articles for years, followed his renovations parallel to mine (OK, his was an E-Type, mine was a Triumph), and also I noted his wife's enthusiam for the Boxster in particular - my wife loved it from first sight.
Go Boxster!

Isn't it great to own the car that every magazine compares every other convertible sports car with as a benchmark?

The November issue of Excellence has a great four page write up on the 2007 Boxsters.

You know you can get 12 issues or R&T for $9.00 on-line. 2 years for $16.50. Winding Road has almost taught me to do that digital subscription thing.

Except for the part about having to take a laptop to the throne room.

The bathroom is no place for a laptop. I've almost dropped mine twice and once it almost got a shower.

Best thing to do is to print off the articles you wish to read in the "library"

I gotta say though, Winding Road is absolutely wonderful. Free for readers and lower cost ad sales will make that magazine a world-wide favorite for many years. I published a quarterly periodical for 12 years so I know the hassles and expenses of printing and mailing thousands of magazines and keeping up with subscriptions. Ugh!

Expect Excellence and Car and Driver to move to this as well one day. It won't happen soon because of the revenue generated by print sales, but it will happen. Postage or paper will get too expensive one day and they'll be forced to go to it or go out of business.

Sincerely,

in the Car and Driver they compare the Turbo Soltice to the "benchmark" Boxster as well. Muted steering but according to them, the $25K Pontiac accelerated out of every corner faster than the $45 Boxster.
They also noted that one of the C&D writers picked up a 2nd hand 986S for $35K
firmly in fully optioned Turbo Solstice territory.

p.s.
Great pics of the new 928 concept and the all new $130K Lotus Esprit.

I have spent allot of time driving the Turbo Solstice & Sky redlines..
I don't care of the Solstice blows the doors off GT-3's.. there is NO comparison to a Boxster.
I could not live with a Solstice every day, the roof is a joke, I can barley fit in it, there is no storage and while it is a fun car it does not have the quality feel of a Boxster, They are both roadsters, thats were the comparison ends.

my .000986S cents

Well, my copy finally got here today. Probably some postal worker reading Peter Egan. But I've been anticipating since your post.

Yep, I have a lot in common with him also and likewise savor every word he writes.

That column might just be what pushes me over the edge to buy a Boxster.
