Is this over the top or what?

I just noticed this today, after almost 3 k miles.

The freakin speedometer works in reverse! I don't think I've seen another car that tells you how fast you are going backwards.

And yup both the digital and analog.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a little over the top and useless?

Ahhhh... the magic of eee-lec-tronics! what will they think of next!

Don't hit anything going backwards while watching the speedo!

That's funny. How did you ever end up looking at the speedo going in reverse?

I always stare at the speedo in reverse! That way I know how fast I am going when I back in to something! Actually the digital takes a heartbeat or to to "settle".
I then went to a wide open parking lot to confirm that yup it works in reverse.
And yeah I know it's electronic duh.
My point is it had to cost something for this feature, seems rather silly.

On the more serious side, that digital speedo has taught me that some gauges are fine in some applications. That lil analog version is too hard for my old eyes to read without losing concentration on my driving.

Maybe in reverse!

Completly agree, the analog is only good for ballpark speed, requires to much concentration for my old eyes as well. In fact I don't think it would be much good for young eyes either. Glad the digital is there.

On another note, is there a way to turn the digital speedo off?

My wife can see it from the passenger seat, and she starts making noises if it has more than 2 digits on the display!

I was at a meet recently and one of the guys had a heads up display in his Boxster, small box on the dash that projected on to an almost transparent panel on the screen, I think it had a rev counter, speed etc. Hooks right in behind the cluster, it was pretty neat if you like to keep your eyes on the road. I think he said it was about $200.

Chris.

roflmao!

I'm glad we have the digital speedos. The analog one is cool but it takes my brain too long to decipher the 25mph increments.

Interesting, I find a quick glance at the analog speedo tells me what I need to know.

Why do we have no "oil pressure" guage and no ammeter or volt guage...isn't that more important than 2 spedometers???

No, no.. you need to buy a 911 for that "luxury"

The Boxster is a "cheap" Porcshe

actually.....

I am working on a oil temp & oil pressure gauge set that will fit in one of the cubbys below the radio.....vdo all the way.

But I need to get my car back from the dang shop to do sizing for a faceplate. I was thinking of fabbing it out of MDF painted black, as I have a nice woodowrking shop in my garage.

the engine already has the ports for the sensors to screw in. It would be easy to add a voltage gauge as well, I bet you could fit 3- 2 1/16" gauges in the cubby.

I smell a kit in the making......

would there be any interest in a gauge kit for the boxster?????

it would include the gauges, senders, faceplate and required wires.

I really have a hard time not having oil temp and pressure in my car. You need to know when things are hot enough to hit the fun pedal.
