Driving to work Friday morning everything is running great. I get to work, start to back into a parking spot and all the sudden, a a loud low pitch whine and lots of smoke. I say to myself, self WTF?
I let the car sit for a while. Went out to look at what's going on and I see oil on the drivers side rear. I assume a sparkplug tube let go. I go back the next day, change out the 3 tubes on the drivers side, clean up the oil, start it up and took it for a spin around the parking lot. As I turn the steering wheel, lots of ugly sounds coming from somewhere. I parked the car, checked the transmission fluid level and the dipstick is
dry. I searched the forum and from what I've read, the O-ring between the pump and reservoir might have given up. Am I on the right path?
If this is correct, I haven't found a video or a tutorial on how to get there. Would someone point me in the right direction? If I am going down the road, where should I look for this leak. Please help.

You have a dipstick on the transmission?

Maybe you mean the power steering reservoir?

1st thing you need to do is determine what kind of fluid it is. Oil, PS, transmission, etc.

You must mean power steering.
start at the reservoir and follow the hoses tell you find oil.
Then you could fill the reservoir will PS fluid and have someone turn the steering wheel side to side with engine running and what for the leak.
It is more common for a hose to blow or connection to leak then for a seal or O-ring to go.

Follow the hoses and look for anyplace they may be rubbing against metal.

There will also be a small hose coming out of it. Not sure if they call this an overfill hose or not, but it's common for fluid to come out of this hose during a good drive like at the track...and the smart engineers have it going right on top of the engine which is only a little better then going on the exhaust.

There's a hard line that goes into the back of the pump. It might have popped out. Do not run the motor until you get it fixed. replacing the power steering pump is the biggest pain in the ars.

In my frustration I misstated transmission for power steering. Anyway, thanks for the guidance. Sounds like a weekend project if the rain ever ends.
