how come the spoiler only goes up halfway?

i would push the button and it only opens up a little bit.
i was only able to get it fully open once, and now it only goes halfway.

anyone else has this problem?

Interesting, do you get a Spoiler lite on your dash after it stops halfway? if not then i dont think its a mechanical issue.

well lets see, Did you know that the Switch is a one-touch to get it to raise, but to lower the spoiler you have to hold the button until the spoiler is completely down...If you only held it part of the way, then the spoiler is considered partly open still and i think if you press the UP switch, itll only raise while you hold the button.....

Try Holding the Down button for more than 7 seconds to insure its all the way down with ignition in the ON posistion, Once your are 100% positive its down, then press the up button and quickly get out the car and watch it raise to insure its raising all the way up.

djomlas, you're kinda young to be having issues like this!!

What if you "hold" the button vs. "push" the button? Does it go up completely when you reach the proper speed...aprox 73-74 MPH?

and as for above the 75 or so, well i really cant see the thing so i have no clue

Do you have a camera phone? When you are driving 73-75 MPH (witht the top down) raise your hand in the air with the camera phone pointing back at the rear spoiler...and take your picture. Be careful!

If I were an attorney, I'd list some type of disclaimer. So let me repeat myself...please be careful!!

Hi,

All kidding aside, the spoiler uses a high current motor with a transmission. It has 2 relays which control it, both located in the rear Relay Block in the trunk. Relay #3 is the Spoiler Extension Relay and Relay #9 is the Spoiler Retraction Relay. You read the Relay Block L-R 1-6 top row, 7-12 bottom row. The fuse for this circuit is D7.

I suspect your switch or the relays are your problem. Try swapping the relays to see if you can get the problem to reverse itself. This will confirm that the Extension Relay is the problem. You can also remove the switch and jump it, but this is a little more complicated, so try swapping the relays (or just reseating them) first. Relays do tire when about to go, so the extension relay may have bad contacts which release when it gets warm from use. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Hi,

Ooh, that's not good. Next on the list of possibilities would be the Motor. This motor is attached to a transmission. I'm thinking that perhaps a tooth is broken, dirt or debris is stopping it, or some such. I would suggest that with the aid of an assistant, you try to raise the spoiler, with the assistant activating the switch and you gently pulling the spoiler up, not going all Ahhhhnold on it, just giving it some gentle help. This may work you past any issues.

If still no-joy, then I'm afraid that you're looking at taking the system apart, not really difficult, but fairly involved as you must essentially disassemble the trunk, latch, etc. to get at it. I probably have the procedure available if you PM me your email addy. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
