Todays Mod/Hack;"Artic Silver" Door Panel Parts

So I wanted to do the alumalok interoir that Porsche offered,I was having trouble finding a reasonable price on any of the parts. The lowest price I could find was $350 for the door panel insert;SRS Airbag cap,"C" clip, and the door handle. Forget that I found a eBay seller by the name of Asimplechef ,he paints OEM parts in Artic Silver. $70 bucks shipped got my door panels done! This guys parts are high quality and not some cheap unevenly painted junk. I was happy with the purchase here are some before and after pics. Artic Silver is a close match to my aluminuim hand brake and shift knob. :)

Looks like it time for the "S" instrument rings.....

KronixSpeed 10-30-2006 01:43 PM

yeah that looks good, not cheap looking. matches very well. i also like the middle console.

Perfectlap 10-30-2006 01:44 PM

nice! Been wanting to do this with my center console for ages. So expensive
though. Its fallen down the priority scale.
I want a hig gloss finish as close to the exterior as possible. I emailed the guy
at bumper plugs but it wasn't what I was really looking for.
Your's seems well worth it. Maybe I'll get the lid of that door storage painted from this ebay dude.

Looks great

I was gonna get that door handle shroud as well, but my door handle is arctic already, so not sure how it would look. I love the center console in body color though. It sets off the interior, imo.

i like it...

Looks great... how close is the Arctic to Alumalook?

I really want to do my console, my car has the Alumalook shifter, brake..etc
I am leaning toward body color for the console (seal grey) how do you guys think it will look with the Alumalook?

Just thinking. Wouldn't a painted center console be more susceptible to scratches?

Mine lasted pretty well, but it did get chipped in a couple of places, particularly around the ashtray. I took it out and re-shot it.

This is how your interior would look with a seal gray console against the alumalook shift knob and brake handle. Personally, I think an alumalook console might set off your interior better because the gray against black leather is very subtle whereas the alumalook is more striking a difference. Alumalook is lighter in shade than Arctic, although I think an arctic console would work well for you as well. I got mine from Bumperplugs over a year ago, and the paintwork has held up really well. Not one chip or scratch. It's expensive, but it's a professional job that looks just as good as factory.

The painted console paired with Boxster Red interior looks exceptionally nice IMO. Looks almost exoticar like, and much better than the bare black plastic console. I would def. do the console in your car. Love your GT3 seats btw.

Alumalook console:

Thanks for the pics, being a "subtle" kinda guy I think I like the look of the seal grey with the Alumalook shifter/brake.

I can also say that using asimplechef was a good experience. I used him for my bumperettes and was extremely happy with the results. Especially for the $100 + shipping price.

yeah that is very nice. Too bad that sifter and e-brake are nearly a $1,000! :( :

I'm going to give this guy a shot, I was just looking at the instructions for removing the center console from the B&M short shifter DIY pdf. If he can do
the job for allot less than $500 I think it will be worth it.
I only worry about scratching in a high traffic area like that. Maybe I'll have it
covered in 3m by Premier in LA or something.

Forgive the noob question, but where else can I get my center console painted to match my exterior as well as the plastic parts on the doors? I love the way the color-match console looks and I think a green one would look great on my car.

Thanks, Travis!

EDIT: Great, now I feel the need to get much of the interior in metallic rain forest green. The pics in the gallery are sweet.

Yeah, bumperplug's stuff is expensive, but the paintwork will be perfect. A perfect paint match and no blemishes or defects when it comes to your door. I've had mine in for over a year, and not a scratch yet, although I am careful around it. I got my console when it wasn't pushing $500 bucks though. Remember that ordering it from the factory, however, it costs like $800.
