Modifying Front Fender Liners For Better Cooling

Has anyone done this:

https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche-996-997-Carrera/107-BODY-Modifying_Your_Wheelwell_Liners/107-BODY-Modifying_Your_Wheelwell_Liners.htm

At first glance, seems like a good idea.

Any downsides?

It’s more trouble than you think….

……also, the airflow out the bottom of the radiators on our cars is really great. As long as you have those two rubber flaps on each side, you get a huge pressure difference on both sides of the radiators.

If you want more cooling capacity, just install the double core, all aluminum CSF radiators.

I think there’s a good reason for the top vents on the GT3 bumper cover having experienced a bit of float over 100mph on the track with my Boxster. Although, oddly, my 997 doesn’t feel so bad.

Oops….

…..I guess I should have read the link first, this is to improve brake cooling.

I installed the bigger GT3 brake cooling vanes on the control arm. I don’t k ow if that helped either.

I have an “S” with the bigger brakes, and when running the Porsche Sport pads, I’ve never run out of brakes at DE events.

997 vents into the wheel wells like the mod.

i presume if good enough for porsche to make the change then it's a good thing to do.

Doing this right now. Even with the proper tools, some of these plastic rivets are tough. I’m about to go nuclear and melt them off with the heat gun! It’s good to do this as there’s a good load of crap in the radiators again.

Yes, I noticed the "floaty" feeling at the track.
I do have the GT3 brake scoops (bought back when they were $6!!) and have not had any fade issues.

Just finished, though I still need to replace the bumper cover.
Anyway, for anyone doing this, I highly recommend the proper tool. Did not break one plastic rivet when using it!
Also, rather than cutting all those slots, I just hacked out a section and backed with some plastic mesh. Looks racier anyway!
