push out cup holder

I just recently found out that some Boxsters (2003 and up?) were fitted with a push out cup holder integrated into the center console. I've been looking for a solution like this for the longest time!
Has anyone done this yet? Does anyone know what parts are required for this and the part numbers?

BTW, I have a 2000 Boxster and this is my first post. :)

To use the 2003 onwards cup holder I believe you'd have to replace almost the entire dash, I know of someone who did it but it isn't easy.

The earlier models had a cup holder option in the dash but they are scoffed at as they really are quite poor.

In my opinion you're better off looking after market, I have an "Ultimate Cup Holder" which works well, it attaches to the side of the tunnel and sits buy at the side on the floor. Holds my morning coffee well!

If you really want a set of the pre-03 cup holders I think I know someone who was selling a set, shoot me a PM if you want me to dig out his email address.

Hi,

These are the ones you're talking about: http://eagleday.stores.yahoo.net/inac1.html . Personally, I use the Dual Cup Holder which fits into the Center Console, still allowing the cover to close and latch. I don't keep anything there, so it's pefect for me and I hate having it on the Dash, but that's just a preference. Hope this helps...

Thanks for your response Chris. I've looked in to the earlier model in dash cup holders but i was unimpressed with its quality and design. Plus, I have a double din navigation there. :)
I've looked into the Ultimate Cup Holder but it didn't look like something I would be comfortable with.

I did some searching and found some one who did this but he didn't post much details about it. He mentioned that he had to change more than expected but no mention of changing the entire dash.

Has anyone else looked into doing this?

Thanks Jim. I personally would love to use the Dual Cup Holder but I keep my ipod, garage door opener and a whole lot of misc items that can only go in there because of convenience and integration.
I've used the vent cup holder before and that left me with a broken vent. I ended up giving this away to a friend who happily took it. A month later, cursed me for breaking his vent. :p

Hi,

Gotcha, I don't use an iPod, and I intergrated my Garage Door Opener into the Center Console by wiring it to a Momentary-On switch with an Indicator LED both fixed into one of the Switch Blanks. Looks OEM, but it can be removed anytime in under 10 min., so my Center Console is free...

My friend did the cupholder upgrade in his 99 911. It took a lot of parts and time. He had to re-work the heater vents with a heat gun to make everything fit correctly. The outcome was worth it though.

Here is a link to some picture of the finished product.

Thanks for the link David! It looks like I'll have to take apart my current center console and see what your friend means by re-working the heater vents before doing this project. :)
