Jug noise from gas filler
OK. I've changed the gas cap, the vent valve, and the carbon canister, but the noise persists. What else should I be looking at?

no. It's just the noise. This might be related but the catalytic system won't go into ready state for testing.

If your talking about the monitors for the smog testing, you will need to finish the drive cycle to get the catalytic converter monitors to clear. I got this on a search here as well and it worked to clear all my monitors for before my smog test:
Drive-cycle that should kick you into "ready" mode: Prior to starting the driving cycle ensure your Boxter has only between 1/4 and 3/4 of fuel in the gas tank. Also do not exceed 3,000 rpm or 60 mph during any portion of the drive cycle. A. Start your Porsche Boxter and let it idle for approximately 2 1/2 minutes. This will allow the ECU to diagnose oxygen sensor aging; meaning the computer will be monitoring the oxygen sensor warm-up period and reaction to rising exhaust temperatures. During this period the ECU is also testing the Secondary Air Injection system. B. Begin driving. Accelerate to 20-30 MPH and maintain your speed for 3 1/2 minutes. The ECU will be testing catalytic converter efficiency. C. Next, accelerate to 40-60 MPH. Once again maintain steady speed, this time for approximately 15 minutes. The EVAP system is now being tested along with adaptation range (2) and the oxygen sensor (switching). D. Decelerate and come to a complete stop. If equipped with a manual transmission, idle in neutral for 3 minutes. If equipped with an automatic Tiptronic transmission, idle in drive (D) for 3 minutes. Adaptation range (2) is now being tested. E. Repeat steps B through D. Drive cycle complete. As far as the jug noise, I’ve never heard that noise from my 01S. |
I've done the drive cycle....many times. The catalytic monitor refuses to go into ready mode. I think it has something to do with this noise issue I've been struggling with. I want to solve this to see if I can then get to the ready mode after the drive cycle.

OK. Now I'm getting the p0446 code, but it's not lighting my CEL. This is driving me nuts. What else should I be looking at?

You've pulled the fender liner to attend to the parts you replaced. have you stuck your head up "in and around" there while the noise is evident... to ascertain from where exactly it is coming?
Have you checked all hoses, tubes, fittings, etc. for solid connections? Maybe sprayed soapy water looking for vacuum leaks? Just throwing it out there for ya, and hope it helps. :cheers: |

For those that know. I'm looking to replace the evap valve at the throttle body (996-110-129-06). I also want to use compressed air to blow out the vent line. Is the only way to get to this to remove the air intake manifold? Seems like a ton of work and like it has the potential to open a whole lot of cans of worms.
