jeffsquire 10-24-2006 12:32 PM

This may be worth it just to scavage parts!!

Marc Gelefsky 10-24-2006 12:37 PM

Nice wheels, tacky "S" badge

bmussatti 10-24-2006 12:37 PM

I bet that's a typo. Maybe 17,300 miles.

I doubt it. He specifically cautions people to not be worried about all the highway miles.

It's certainly possible to get that high. I've put alot on in a year -- 23,000km (14,000mi) which is about half what he's put on (on average) and I don't drive to work every day. If he drove the car 60 miles a day to work and back (which isn't too far off of some people I know) he'd hit that amount pretty easily.

I'm lucky though.. I can walk 10 minutes to work and put all of my miles on the way to fun places like Montreal. :-)

I'm betting something is majorly wrong. He would have sold it to a dealer for that little amount of money.

ohioboxster 10-24-2006 01:25 PM

Im sure the mileage is correct. Its nice to see a Boxster with high miles I would love to see the service records on that car.

Ronzi 10-24-2006 01:50 PM

People do wreck these things you know.

Pat S 10-24-2006 02:00 PM

I just cafaxed it.
5 owners, clean title, no accidents show up on carfax
But it was driven about 22K miles a year for the first several years by the first owner. It had 124K miles by 07/2001 but has a whole bunch of various service records over that time.
Owners 2-4 each had it about a year and the current owner has only had it 3 months but put another 3K miles on it.

What do you mean? There are no high milage Boxsters because they are all wrecked? Im not being a smart ass I just dont know what you are trying to say.

Perfectlap 10-24-2006 02:13 PM

you know if you bought it for $9K, put in a new crate motor and new suspension you'd still have quiet a good deal.

Travis 10-24-2006 02:20 PM

Not really that great of a deal if you look at the resale value on KBB with that kind of mileage.

Condition Value

Excellent $11,275

Good $10,325

Fair $9,075

"What do you mean? There are no high milage Boxsters because they are all wrecked? Im not being a smart ass I just dont know what you are trying to say."

All I was trying to say was that one potential reason for the seemingly low price is that it could be a crash-and-fix car.
Apparently the Carfax doesn't show any repairs of this nature, but I have seen the claim on this forum that they don't always show up.

I would say at the very least that this car has a somewhat troubling ownership history.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump to that. Higher end cars tend to have more owners, well at least that I have noticed.

Perfectlap 10-24-2006 03:05 PM

actually now that I think about it s'more, its pretty decent sign as a Boxster owner.
how many of our cars will get into that mileage during ownership? Few
Yet with 3 lifetimes of mileage, an early lower-powered model is still a nearly $10K car garnering allot of attention.

take care of your babies, people want them!

Brucelee 10-24-2006 03:24 PM

Pity the poor fool that buys that POS.

MNBoxster 10-24-2006 03:27 PM

Hi,

Can you say BLACK HOLE...???...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

djomlas 10-24-2006 04:09 PM

id be scared to buy one with that many miles, but nice to see that they can hold up that long :)

Grizzly 10-24-2006 04:55 PM

I have a friend who has a Cadillac Allante. Parts for them are difficult to find and very expensive. He belongs to an Allante club. When the members find an Allante cheap enough, they chip in, pick it up and stash it. Then when expensive parts go bad, they can pull from their parts cars rather than being held hostage by the dealer or the aftermarket. Not a bad idea...just a thought.
