Lots of coolant leaked out of back right tire, stream from trunk
 

And wetness in the trunk. By process of elimination, it must be a split in the coolant tank, right? I had thought hose or water pump, but fluid in the trunk and hissing coolant steam from trunk means tank?

Looks like you need a new tank. And don’t worry, I first uploaded giant images here too. You just have to resize them.

That's what I figured.

I've got about 7 threads open but none of them talk about what the cheapest replacement tank would be. Any ideas?

Very well could be the tank. With that much fluid, hopefully you can see a crack usually I think they're on the bottom unfortunately. I also want to mention just in case there were issues with the early caps see if you have a 01 at the end of the part number on that blue cap in your hand. There's a new version available from pelican with a 04. Worth checking.

After you've read a hundred threads from the guys who went with the "cheapest" tank... you'll reconsider. Go OEM. Period. Save yourself the headache. Good luck. :cheers:

The OEM tank is the only tank to use.
All other "Cheap" tanks are junk and do not last long.
If it was my car I would do a simple coolant system pressure test to confirm it is a cracked tank and not simply a fault bleeder valve, or bad cap;)

+1 on OEM. PO had installed a German knock off replacement and it leaked at the seam.

Change out the tank with the OEM like others have said ....and PLEASE try to learn to post "normal sized" pics....LOL...LOL

Are you in a hurry to fix the car ? If you are not then I suggest you start/complete the removal of the tank . After swearing/fighting/scraping of knuckles and other " fun " you will quickly tell yourself I'm not doing this again soon :D . And you will order the OEM tank .

Or you can rely on the wisdom of this forum ( there is LOTS ) and just order the OEM tank upfront . On these cars the wisdom say's OEM water pumps and overflow tanks are the way to go . Good luck and keep us updated . :cheers:

What is on that cap? Better check the oil for intermix while you're at it.

Doesn't look like any oil on the cap. Dunno what that is, though...it's the older cap, maybe it has something to do with that?

Can someone help me with a parts list for this job? I've already got the bolts out and the tank loose.

Tank
New .04 cap
Spring Clamp Pliers
What type of spring clamps do i need to replace? Or has everyone had good luck with their screw clamps?
Coolant level sensor - maybe?
I'll be checking the oil filler tube later today to see if that needs replacing.

You need remote hose clamp pliers. Trying to use regular hose clamp pliers on this job is futile.

I just did this job on a friend’s ‘00 in August and the remote pliers saved my mental health. ;)

Sunex 3720 Flexible Hose Clamp Pliers

Screw clamps make reassembly easier. Two of the hoses are easier to cut and replace verses trying to get the clamps off. It is also easier to leave the overflow hose attached to the tank. Buy new ones at your favorite parts house.

Get a replacement fill hose for the oil.
Get a replacement fill sensor for the tank.
