Now what

When I opened my top this afternoon, I heard a loud POP. With the roof partially opened I discovered the passenger side push rod was digging into the guide rail and eating it away.

Tried to attach a picture that shows the damage.

1. What is causing this?
2. What is the fix.

Looks like I will order a new guide rail as a start.

Any help is appreciated. Too many nice top down days left in N. Florida. Don't want to miss out.

Upon further investigation the lever on the transmission is what is eating into the rail guide. WHY???

Seems like something’s seriously out of whack. :( Is the transmission loose?

I'm going to separate the top from the transmission tomorrow and check things out.

Well, I had similar issues and I took all the parts out and open and close my top manually. Weight reduction is a plus and I could not justify the expense for the third time! What seems to be a simple design, evidently isn't reliable. True my 2000S is twenty years old, but three major component top repairs is a bit much and all were repaired by Porsche dealers.
