Boxter Odometer

Hi Friends,
In 2019 bought a project 2001 Boxter S that had been sitting for 6-8 years with 38,000 original miles. The top leaked, the drains were backed up with pine needles. There was a good 1-2 inches of water in the car. Needless to say everything was corroded from the moisture. I had to replace the immobilizer and computer. The tech at Porsche couldn’t get the gauge cluster to talk to the computer due to the corrosion on the back to the gauge cluster. I would up purchasing a replacement gauge cluster on E-Bay which showed 48,000 miles on the odometer from the original Boxter S that came from. Long story short my Porsche now shows 48k miles instead of the 38k the original odometer read when I purchased. Does anyone know if possible to change the miles to the correct (which may be illegal-I don’t know) or a place I can send my original cluster to be refurbished? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You,
Mickey

From reading other posts about swapping out new/old clusters, people have used http://www.odo-pro.com/index.html to redo their mileage.

Search for the threads on 996 cluster installation. It would be possible to use an EEPROM reader/interface to see the exact recorded mileage in the old cluster and program the replacement to reflect that. I’m not a lawyer, but I imagine as long as the odometer shows the true value you should be fine.

Here's a link to instructions I posted on Rennlist. (The file is too big for this forum.)

I believe your car has the newer dot-matrix cluster. I have only tested this on the older LCD cluster.

Good luck
