Iam off to work but I will ck it tonight..I thought it was a strong Interstate battery key was in it since yesterday afternoon..Thanks

Leaving the key in the ignition drains the battery quite quickly. I have learned not to do that.

I have a 2003 Boxster S. When I bought it it had one working key. Right or wrong I took the good key apart and relocated the transponder pill next to the cars ignition switch. I then purchased a cut key without any electronics as a second key. second key works perfectly as does first. The interesting exception is that the car never discharges the battery over several weeks of sitting with no battery maintenance. I do not understand others saying the battery drains quickly with the key in the car. That is not my experience.

It may be “key in” as in it was turned off and not removed and reinserted. I tend to take mine out and put it back in without turning it, and haven’t had drainage issues.

Quadcammer 09-22-2020 12:54 PM

right. turn off car, remove key and reinsert= totally fine

turn off car and leave key as it is=drains battery.

ooh...hateful. I removed my locking lugs...but before that, it lived in the center console, available to anyone that wanted to steal my wheels.
let us know how you get in?

Is it safe to jump or charge the battery thru the cigarette lighter ( even if possible ? )

Yes. Lots of products to charge through that port. Do a quick search on this forum... you'll find plenty.

Good luck!

Thanks Starter,..Wish I would have thought of this sooner..!! Frank

I noticed that when i turn off the car, leave the key in, open the door and leave the car with the window open, the interior lights stay on indefinitely. I sometimes do this when working on the car.

But, if I pull the key, open the door and close it behind me the light turns off after 10 seconds or so.

That's what I've been careful to do so I don't leave the interior lights on all night.

On the 986, the battery will drain in less than two weeks if not hooked up to a trickle charger. When the battery drains, I have found that more often than not a cell will fail and the battery needs to be replaced.

So either get a trickle charger, or drive it at least every other day.

Then you have some parasitic draw on the battery.
For the battery to drain in less than two weeks is not normal.

No, the alarm system on the 986 is horrible, it will drain our battery simply by sitting still. It's a common faukt.

My guess is you simply didn't have a good connection and I'bet it was on the ground side.
