Boxster wont start its completely dead
I left the key in the ignition in the off position ,and now NO sign of life,..any info would be great Thanks Frank

what is the battery voltage
|
Iam off to work but I will ck it tonight..I thought it was a strong Interstate battery key was in it since yesterday afternoon..Thanks
|
Leaving the key in the ignition drains the battery quite quickly. I have learned not to do that.

I have a 2003 Boxster S. When I bought it it had one working key. Right or wrong I took the good key apart and relocated the transponder pill next to the cars ignition switch. I then purchased a cut key without any electronics as a second key. second key works perfectly as does first. The interesting exception is that the car never discharges the battery over several weeks of sitting with no battery maintenance. I do not understand others saying the battery drains quickly with the key in the car. That is not my experience.

right. turn off car, remove key and reinsert= totally fine
turn off car and leave key as it is=drains battery. |

Is it safe to jump or charge the battery thru the cigarette lighter ( even if possible ? )

I noticed that when i turn off the car, leave the key in, open the door and leave the car with the window open, the interior lights stay on indefinitely. I sometimes do this when working on the car.
But, if I pull the key, open the door and close it behind me the light turns off after 10 seconds or so. That's what I've been careful to do so I don't leave the interior lights on all night. |
On the 986, the battery will drain in less than two weeks if not hooked up to a trickle charger. When the battery drains, I have found that more often than not a cell will fail and the battery needs to be replaced.
So either get a trickle charger, or drive it at least every other day. |

For the battery to drain in less than two weeks is not normal. |
No, the alarm system on the 986 is horrible, it will drain our battery simply by sitting still. It's a common faukt.

In my case, I was going for a ride fired it up dropped the windows because it was so hot outside, car was in the shade but still hot , So i shut it off went in the house got busy and then forgot the key was in the ignition but turned off. Next day went out to go for a ride and just dead, My wife even said..you told me to never leave the key in the ignition,!!
So i guess i new better Lol |
As it turned out,..I used to Cig lighter adapter as soon as I pluged in the charger light's came on popped the trunk, charged battery,..all seems to be fine !
But I would like to know why the fuse panel trick didnt work..anyone have an idea as to why that didnt work ?....Thanks Frank |
