Ignition switch problem - fixed!
Hello,
my car is 1998, 2.5 Boxster 986. I had a problem with the strarter - when I put the key on contact position and turn it right to start the car the key didn't turn back left. It was staying in position, so there was a problem with the electricity - AC, radio, lights, wipers and so on were not working. I had to turn it back mannually. Local keysmith told me that I had to change the ignition switch. He explained me that for my Boxster this part is identical to one used in Audi 80, 1996-1999. Turns out that new ignition switch cost 20 bulgarian leva (around 12 USD) and the labour cost was 30 leva (18 USD). I am attaching photo of the part in case anyone has same problem. https://i.postimg.cc/9XtPX1dw/20200814-171032.jpg It was cheap and easy fix. Thanks! |
What a coincidence that you posted this two days ago and I'm having this same problem today.
So this part only pushes the key back left after you start the engine? |

Congrats to Monopola for finding the fix and thanks for sharing! |
As far as I know this part it the one that connects all electronics to the starter. Also, in it there is small metal spring that helps the key to turn back after car start. It is pretty important and my idea was to share that cheap part for another model is the same as the one for Pirsche, so you can save some money :)
English is not my native language, so thechnical specs are very hard for me to explain :) |
English may not be your "native language" but you explained it EXCELLENTLY!.....welcome!!
