Horn issue
Hi!
So today i started doing some of the small things, cleaned headlights lenses, replaced all of the headlight bulbs, started vacuuming under/around the rear top seals, stuff like that. FYI the car sat outside uncovered for several years (2-3), previous owner had health issues, and couldn’t take care of it. I noticed that the horn didn’t work, so i started noodling on it, first step was to check the fuse, and it was blown! Easy fix, grabbed another 25 amp fuse, and popped it in, only to have the horn start blaring nonstop about 30 seconds after plugging in the new fuse. I read here that some times there is a bushing in the steering wheel that can go bad, but i was wondering if anyone else had issues, and what steps they took to remedy. Thanks in advance, sorry if my post is long/rambling. |
There is a metal "frame" that holds the airbag and is part of the circuit for the horn. There are rubber "grommet" like features that allow flex when you press for the horn. The rubber parts disintegrate. There are a few DIY's on using small plumbing o-rings to "shim" the metal frame to keep it from setting off the horn randomly/continuosly....... If you can't find it, post again and I'll try to find it.....
This was the first thing I needed to fix on my car..... -Eric 99 986 09 Cayman S |
