Anybody using an AFE Dry Air Filter?

Hello,

Pretty soon I am supposed to receive a well cared for 1999 Porsche Boxter. I was thinking of getting an AFE dry air filter. Anybody use one of these? I know and don't expect any big power, just want a little bit more intake noise when accelerating. Safe or not worth the risk? Just going to ad some budget mods for this car. Thx. Gerald. :)

I tried one maybe 4 or 5 years ago. It was slightly thicker than the OEM filter and there was no way it was going to slide into the airbox. Matter of fact I ended up breaking the tray the filter sits in. Bought a new tray and decided it wasn't worth the effort so I just stuck the OEM filter back in. Perhaps they've redesigned it by now? If you get one, let us know how it fits.

I have an AFE dry filter in my 98 Boxster. I bought it more for convenience than performance or increased intake noise.

To be honest I don't really notice an increase in intake noise. Getting performance increase from an air filter is a myth in my humble opinion. Also when you clean it be sure it's dry. If it's at all damp your motor will let you know.

More intake noise=desnorkel.
It's a glorious sound!

I'm using in my 2000 Boxster. I had no trouble installing the filter. High quality and seems to breathe better than stock. Primary benefit is a quality, cleanable and reusable air filter.

On my 99 I just desnorkeled & put in a K&N.....Sounds great.

I have a aFe filter, and I removed it to clean it, however, I oiled it with my K&N oil and cleaner kit. I did not realize that it was a dry filter. Do you think I have done harm to it? Should I remove it and wash off the K&N oil?

The oil from the filter will damage your MAF sensor.
Using any thing other than a dry type oil filter destroys MAF sensors.

Boxster 986 dry cone air filter

I’m using Injen SuperNano Web Dry Cone Air Filter and Protective Cover Dustproof for High Flow Air Intake Filters

Best thing I ever did, was when I removed the stock air filter housing and air intake muffler. Then I modified myself the air flow housing for dry cone air filter. Also stock exhaust had to go for Borla S. No need to replace catalytics. Car is like a flying jet
