Cracked coil packs

Anyone know if these can cause a timing chain out of position error? P1340

They will not, usually if there is a problem with a coil pack you will get a misfire code.

Yes the car does have misfire codes also. I thought a misfire May also cause the timing error code.

A misfire is not usually a cause it is most usually an affect.
a misfire can be caused by bad ignition timing, bad cam timing, cracked coil packs, fouled or cracked plugs, low octane fuel, and other things.
All the above listed are possible "causes" the misfire is the "affect".

All my coil packs were cracked (180k kms). They were the original Beru units. So I swapped out the plugs, plug tubes and coil packs while I was down there. Pretty easy job.

The swap made a slight but pleasant difference. Not sure if that's because of the plugs or the coil packs. Note however, prior to making the change, I was NOT throwing any codes. So not sure if this helps at all.

During my research, I read that the coil packs are susceptible to cracking from heat from the headers. Usually the heat shields are removed in these cases. My heat shields had in fact been removed.
