Which handles better the Boxster or The 914
Both cars are to be in stock form (if possible).But of course this is just a drivers seat opinion, Also must add which one is more FUN to Drive. !! :matchup:

given the 914 weighs around 2150 pounds and the Boxster comes in over 2800 pounds, the 914 has the potential to take the twisties better, BUT they are underpowered. Most 914s come in at 80 to 110 hp, which is frustrating.The boxster also has a more advanced suspension setup, so the Boxster is more fun to drive, but the 914 has its moments, IMHO.

Having had the opportunity to drive both I favor the Boxster mainly due to more power, suspension and wider tires. The 914 was fun and gave the perception it was going faster than it was due to sitting so low. I also remember that when the 914 lost rear traction, it had a tendency to spin out quickly. I never felt that in the Boxster no mater how hard I tried in wet conditions. Maybe I didn't try hard enough in the Boxster. The 914 was the first Porsche I ever drove. It was also the first car I had an accident in. It spun out into a tree. I was able to drive it home and it got fixed to drive another day.

I had a nice 914 2.0 and loved it. Like KK2002s said, it did spin out once in the curves on me. Now after owning 4 Boxsters 986/2-987 and 2014, like people say, the modern cars are much more safer and handle great. Never have or even felt like a spin out. I still could own a 914 tho, just because! Actually the 914 makes an excellent Auto-X car!

I restored a 73 2.0 litre years ago. Converted the fuel injection back to carb because of storage/raccoon issues. (what a friggin mess)
When done it was like driving a go-kart, definitely raw and you'd slide around corners because of the itty bitty tires. Now, let's compare one with a flat 6 in her to a Boxster...discuss! :cheers: |
We also changed to carb setup due to a fire that burned up the FI wiring.
So the 916 would be an interesting comparison to the Boxster along with a little more rubber on the 916 |

I have owned the '70 with 85HP IIRC for two years, selling the week before the warranty ran out. And a Boxster 2.5 201 HP and a Boxster S 3.2 250 HP. Because you could flog it harder, the low HP made the 914 feel better. Now if it was technically better is another story. If the darn 914 didn't rust at the hint of snow and salt, I'd still have mine. Today good 914-4s go for maybe 50% more than Boxsters of the 986 vintage. Great ones get to the gasp $60s. And the 914-6 gets above $100k for great ones. |
I loved my 914 with the 3.0 six running PMO carbs. Light & fast. I also had a original six with a 2.2 E cams. Really ran great. Wishing I still had both.
