986 coolant flush broken impeller
my impeller broke, now there are shards in the system...what is the best way to flush it out? hose up the thermostat hose, do i have to pinch off the front radiator hoses first, then do them after the engine flush, can i leave the water pump off when i run the hose into the system...back flush? please, i love my boxster, and want to TRY to get all the junk out and SAVE it...please help

FWIW, on my car the PO had replaced the water pump after the impeller failed. Last year we pulled the oil cooler that sits atop the engine to replace the o-rings, which were leaking oil. While it was off we looked in the water side of the cooler & found a bunch of plastic shards from the impeller. Makes sense since it's one of the most restrictive places the coolant must flow through.
