Need suggestion for coating for small fraying spots on canvas convertible top.
My 2003 Boxster S top is in pretty decent shape, except for a couple of spots where the wear and tear from folding towards the back sides has started to fray through the outer layer of canvas.
There's one spot in particular that's become a hole in the outer layer about the size of a dime. I don't think it necessarily needs a patch. My thought is to coat a thin layer of clear weatherproof flexible canvas adhesive over the spot with a small brush to prevent further decay in that spot, hopefully without drawing too much attention to it. But I'm not sure what to use. I've been searching the web and the forums. Possibilities I've found that seem they might work: Stormsure, Rhino Glue, E6000.. Anyone have any good advice for me? Thank you! |
Try Shoe goo. I had a similar small hole and it worked great

The E6000 glue with yellow slightly over time. I used some on the small cracks in my rear plastic window. It's held up, but looks like ********************. Haha.

Did you do the repair? I have the same issue on a 2003, there are two plastic fin shaped pieces attached to a frame you can see between top and headliner, I have removed them as they have worn small holes in the canvas

I thought the wear was from movement at the fold over time, but now that you mention it, I DO think it is worn at the same small spot on both sides, which does seem curious. Isn't it likely those fin pieces serve a purpose though? I haven't done the repair yet. Virtually no summer rain in LA. But I really should do it this month, before our winter rain. Will report back. |
