Unusual sound

Hi I have a 2001 986 and we have noticed that when you turn the engine off there is what can only be described as a gulping sound is this normal ??

It must be a sigh of relief! Ease up on how hard you drive your car! :-)

hahaha, that's awesome.

Fungirl, I'm trying to imagine anything that could sound like a "gulp", and I'm not getting far. any way you can get a video (w/audio, of course, hehe) of it and post?

Maytag, wasn't it you who made fun of me once for posting a video of a rod knock? Now you want a video of a gulp sound? Just sayin' :D:D

yup... though as I recall, I was makin' fun of ME.... :D
to me, EVERY NOISE ON A VIDEO sounds like a rod-knock. But some of y'all are better at that than I am. ;-)

I would suggest that the sound of a rod knock, followed by a gulp, is just a sound Piper makes in his natural habitat.

No? :D

That's not exactly the way I recall it, but I still like to think back and smile about it. ;)

Regarding her question, could it be more like a gurgling from an air pocket in the cooling system?

Or do the vents go into a "parked" position when you shut off the car? I haven't noticed it in my 02, but my Town and Country does that and it makes a sound that could be considered a "gulp". I think I've heard it in my Outback as well.

So lets get serious.

When I have heard a sound that has a gulpy ring it has come from the A/C. My theory is that when you shut off the A/C pump the high and low pressure sides equalize in the evaporator, As the difference in pressure drops you may be able to hear the sound.
