Is this bad boy the cause of my rattle?
I have an annoying rattle that comes from the rear. It's there at startup and at low RPMs. Noticed this busted bushing today, could this be my holy Grail? If so, what else should I replace once I replace this one? Thanks guys!
Video of rattle (I'm not sure if it's easy to make out here) https://i.imgur.com/DyzUZhU.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/ePYLHZq.jpg |
That will absolutely never cause of any RPM-related rattle, but it sure needs replaced anyway. For some reason I can't open the video, but it it's RPM related, it could be a number of things. Loose heat shields around your exhaust, loose honeycomb inside the cats, among other things.

The video? Yeah.... I can't hear it..... and I've said it before: on a video, everything sounds like a rod-knock. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |
Thanks guys! I'll continue the search and add control arms to my ever growing list haha
Hopefully it is just a loose honeycomb because I'll be replacing my cats soon |
Remove your serpentine belt and twist your water pump pulley. Mine had the same noise and I could not pin it down till the water pump failed 3 days ago. Listen to me spinning my old pump and compare it with your video.

Familiar rattle on my water pump too.
But it can be one of the idle pulley also. What I did is, I removed the firewall cover and then let the engine run and use a plastic hose (like a stethoscope) and use one end of the hose to place it closer to each part along the belt cycle and one end of the hose close to my ear. You will really hear which one is making the rough sound. |
