Battery Question

Hi guys - I know that there a lot of posts about batteries, but I have run across something that is apparently somewhat new and it would be nice to enlist some comments. I believe that in the past Optima did not make a better that fit our Boxsters. But I have just learned that they now make a Yellow Top, model H6 that Optima confirms does fit my 04 SE. Its overall measurements are very close to my existing battery - very close. So, I was curious if anyone out there has fit this battery into their 986 and, if so, any comments? Did it fit properly? Thanks!

I can't comment on the fitment of the Optima but I believe there are better quality AGM style batteries than Optima . My last yellow top Optima in a 914 was NOT a quality product . I am currently running a AGM battery from local Discount Auto in my 02 S . Been in for over a year and so far so good . I think it is made by Johnson Control but not 100 percent sure .

Optima's, when they had a 7yr warranty, were worth a price premium. With just 36mo, like anyone else these days, there are much better options out there including AGM. And just b/c they have a battery which fits doesn't mean a deep cycle is the best choice for your application (maybe if you leave it parked at the airport for months on end...).

Anyhow, a tip:
Clear your browser cookie history (or open a private tab) and hit your local AutoZone, Advance, O'Reilly's or what have you. In most cases you'll immediately get a pop-up offer for 15-25% off anything ordered online for pick up in store.

Good luck

H6 is indeed the specified battery for a 986.
