Best Sounding Exhaust?
The Boxster sounds great to my ear out of the box (get it.....), but I had been looking for a little more sound from the exhaust system. After playing with a number of options, I found that headers and high-flow cats with the stock muffler on my 2.7L Boxster is a very musical combination. What sorts of exhaust mods have worked with others to make their cars sing?

Headers and Cats
Here is a photo (I hope) of my new TTP headers and used Cats:

Performance Difference?
Ed, have you noticed any real seat of the pants difference yet or haven't the mods. been installed yet? What was the cost of the Autothority "chip"? I am looking to get a 2.7 in the near future and all the help on this and other sites has been wonderful.

To my knowledge, unless you want really loud, Fabspeed's system has the best sound. Schnell's is similar, but not quite as bold as the Fabspeed, and if you do cat bypass pipes, the sound really opens up - literally.

More on Exhaust Sound
I tried the Fabspeed pipes and they did open up the sound somewhat, but it was a modest change for my tastes (but the price is right for the Fabspeed pipes).
The AutoThority chip cost 1.2K and you can immediately tell the difference. They do a lot of remapping of the ECU at low and moderate rpm's, not just at peak HP. I suspect the HP increase is only 15-20 hp for the 2.7L, but the car is far more responsve, I have been very pleased. Ed  |
I have the Borla exhaust with the fabspeed bypass pipes. Very loud and my wife hates it, but it's music to my ears. Check out my video http://media.putfile.com/Borla-mp4
