986 2.7 resonance tube

986 Lovers; does anyone know when and why Porsche started putting 2 resonance tubes on the intake of the 2.7 engine. Most of the pics I see of the 2.7 have 1 resonance tube. Mine has 2. Even the Bently Manual shows only 1 tube. Perhaps the 2.5 has 1 and the 2.7 has 2. I'm confused when I see pics of the 2.7 with 1 tube.

Mine has also 2. Hmm, I have never seen a 2.7l with just one. 2.5l only, maybe?

Maybe the single tube are on the older cars. I see from Pastor T's post that the single tube versions have a cable-controlled throttle body, while the dual tube, and I presume newer, have electrical throttle control.

My 2002 2.7 has two tubes.

I thought all 2.7s came with the dual tube intakes.

In 2000, Porsche switched the 2.5L with cable throttle and single tube to the 2.7L with e-throttle and dual tubes (on base the models). 2000 is the first year for the 3.2L S model as well. Which uses the same dual tube intake as the 2.7L (if I'm not mistaken).

My guess is the pictures are of a 2.5L.

So... the questions are begged... and I submit them to the PROS on this forum:

If you're running a 2.5... can you swap the manifolds from a different engine to run the two tubes (from one)?

If affirmative... is there any improvement in performance?

I do see on the two-tuber that the throttle body slightly is offset... and that could pose a problem with the 2.5 throttle body angle.

Thank you, and Cheers!

There’s also the problem of the throttle cable vs electronic

Hi Art,

So... no workaround?

Would the two-tube manifolds fit onto the 2.5?

Would there be a performance improvement?

Or... is it a "just not gonna happen" scenario?

I'm guessing that if it could be done, already it would have been.

Thanks!

I’m afraid that I can’t really answer that question, not having had any experience precisely. However, my feeling is that it’s probably not worth the trouble. There are other simpler mods that can be done to increase the oomph, like an udp or better air flow/exhaust, etc.
