Early amber headlight types
Good day all,
I'm planning to replace my headlights with some new original amber lights (I love the original look) and noticed that there are two types of amber lights available: Type 1: transparent inlay http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1577481375.jpg Type 2: silver inlay http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1577481311.jpg Why does the inlay differ in some headlights? Does it has to do with production years or options? Pleased to hear Please refer to the attached pictures. Happy holidays! |
There are lot's of aftermarket copies & maybe Rest of World type differences

There seems to be no rhyme or reason for the silver piece, though I do see them more on 996 models.
The inner reflector diffuser also comes in 2 styles (half and full). There is another style with the backside of the lens painted silver around the light openings and there are 2 shades of amber. ...so you actually have at least 8 choices. I built a set of Litronics with amber lenses, so they are out there somewhere, too (though, not stock). :p |
Interesting. Indeed, they do seem to be installed more on early 996s rather than Boxsters.
Anyhow, managed to get hold on a pair silver painted lights (they seem to accentuate the roundish shape a bit more, especially on an Arctic Silver car). Will install them next week. |
Managed to obtain and install a pair of early "silver" headlights on my '97 Boxster. Happy with the way it turned out.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/11578248433.jpg

Oh wow! Love that spectrum color effect on those new headlights. Genuine Porsche parts?
|
Don't know how I missed it before but the amber section of the headlight complements the body line for the bumper facia pretty well.

Yes they're genuine Bosch lights from a 1998 996. The color effect is due to the usage of a circular polarizing filter - though it's slightly visible to the naked eye as well!
