2000 Boxster S Wheel Fitment Question

Greetings Everyone,

My 2000 Boxster S has the stock 17" twist wheels which are front 7J x 17 H2 with 55mm offset and rear 8.5J x 17 H2 with 50mm offset. I just picked some used 17" Boxster II wheels on eBay which are front 6.5 x 55 offset and rear 8 x 40mm offset. I hoped they would fit OK and the seller assured me the fit would be fine.

I went to a tire shop today to have the wheels mounted on my car and the tire tech told me the front wheels were rubbing the caliper and I would need 5mm hub-centric spacers on the fronts as well as longer lug bolts. Does this sound correct? I called Pelican and they recommended Rennline 5mm spacers @$85/pair. The sales guy said I probably wouldn't need longer lug bolts since I'm only adding a 5mm spacer. Is the stock bolt 45mm long? Will that work or should I buy 50mm bolts to compensate for the 5mm spacer?

Thanks for your help.
