Circleville, OH Trip!

I will be in Circleville on Saturday, November 18th and would absolutely love to see all the Columbus area Boxster owners on this list!

Could one of you volunteer to find a good place for us to meet?

I will not have a car, but will be free for a couple of hours just after dinner Saturday night. I am consulting all day during the day Saturday.

Sure would like to meet you, see your cars, and ride in a supercharged boxster (hint hint!)

Randall,
I would like to meet up with you and go for a ride. Its 2.5 hours from Akron so that would put me at 5 hours drive time. Will you have access to a car at all? If so we could find some middle ground.

If you are in Akron, I could just fly into Cleveland and rent a car to drive down to Circleville to do my consulting on Saturday, which might even be cheaper than flying into Columbus (and I could get my client to pay for some or all of the rental). Then I could drive back up to Akron on Sunday morning and see you and anyone else who could get to Akron, we hang out and talk a bit and then I go to Cleveland to catch my flight home to Houston.

Can anyone else make their way to Akron on Sunday the 19th to hang out and visit with one another and look at ohioboxster's supercharged Boxster?

I'm already getting excited about this, even if it's just meeting one forum member!

That would be great! Make sure you check prices on flights in and out of Akron/Canton Airport. The code is CAK if you do the online thing, sometimes they are way cheaper and its a smaller airport that you can get in and out quick. Keep me posted.

It's only 225 bucks to fly in and out of Columbus, OH compared to 400+ bucks to fly in and out of Akron or Cleveland, believe it or not. So, I think what I'll do is buy the cheaper ticket to Columbus and rent a car to come see you in Mansfield if that's ok.

It's about an hour or so from you? Would that work? I could be there just after breakfast on Sunday morning. Fortunately, Continental has flights back to Houston most all day long so I would not be rushed.

Mansfield it is. I dont know Jack about Mansfields except there is a prison there somewhere. I have a friend that knows the area from dropping clients off at the big house. I will ask him whats around there, maybe a good place to grab some lunch.

Check this out, I searched Mansfield.

Hey guys, I'm in Ashland..

about 20 miles north of Mansfield and would like to meet the both of you.

I'm trying to think of a decent place for lunch in Mansfield but none comes to mind. Landols Castle is very interesting and is about 15 miles SE from mansfield; not sure about a Sunday lunch or brunch .

Anyway, I'll do a little more research and let you know.

Here's a link to Landolls

http://www.landollsmohicancastle.com/rest.htm

Let me know what you think.

Ohio Boxster:
It's a bit south of Loudonville, so if you want to go we'd have to meet at one of the exits on 71.

Landolls looks real swanky but their lunch menu is cheap! I'm up for it.

To tell you the truth, meeting you guys and riding in a supercharged boxster will easily be the most fun I have all day. This restaurant looks good though.

Place looks fine, the friend I spoke of earlier has family in Mansfield so he's going to get us options. I told my wife today as we were blasting down the x-way " I sure hope I dont blow up my car before Randall comes to town" Its running so good. Cant wait till you ride in it. You will giggle like a school girl.

Mike, looking forward to meeting you as well.

Looking forward to meeting both of you..

I chose Landolls just because it's an interesting place--a long story behind it--and the last time I ate there the food was good. Another potential spot is the Lodge at Mohican State Park. A nice drive (Loudonville area) and picturesque setting -- they do the standard brunch on Sunday morning.

Anyway, I was just thinking of a place that we could sit around and chat and then go drive a car without worrying about getting run out for holding a table too long. I can't think of anything in the Mansfield area other than the typical Friday's type places. There's Skyways restaurant just off 71 and Rt 30 which might work. It has quick access to the interstate if you're looking for a place to open it up on a drive I'll check and see if they do brunch. We usually head to Cleveland, Akron or Wooster for a good meal.

Hmm, SC on your Boxster; have you done any auto-x or DE's with it yet? I think that would be an interesting car on a auto-x course.

BTW, Nelson Ledges has a fun day coming up on 10/14. it works just like a DE but they don't tech the car. $125/driver; anybody can drive as long as you have a helmet and a drivers license.

Landolls does look really cool and would be fine with me too.
I have never auto-x'ed my car and dont know what DE means.
Mike we need to prepare Randall for Ohio so here are a few things he needs to know............

You think all Pro football teams are supposed to wear orange!

You know all the 4 seasons: winter, still winter, almost winter and road
construction.

You live less than 30 miles from a college or university.

You know what a buckeye really is, and have a recipe for candied ones.

"Toward the lake" means "north" and "toward the river" means "south."

You know if other Ohioans are from southern or northern Ohio as soon as
they open their mouths.

You can spell words like Cuyahoga, Olentangy, Bellefontaine, Tuscarawas,
Wapakoneta and you know which letter is doubled in Cincinnati!

"Vacation! " means spending a day at Cedar Point in the summer and deer
hunting in the fall.

You measure distance in minutes.

Your school classes were cancelled because of cold.

Your school classes were cancelled because of heat.

You've had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.

You know what should be knee-high by the Fourth of July.

You end your sentences with an unnecessary preposition. For example:
Where's my coat at?"

You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both
unlocked.

You think of the major four food groups as corn, pork, beer, and Jell-O
salad with marshmallows.

You carry jumper cables in your car.

You know what 'pop' is.

You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow.
(Amen!)

You think sexy lingerie is tube socks and a flannel nightgown.

The local paper covers national and international headlines on one page,
but requires six pages for sports.

You know which leaves make good toilet paper.

Someone sent me this in my e-mail today from Jeff Foxworthy

DE = Driver's Education = An excuse to get your car on a track and get some advice on how to drive it really fast without killing yourself.

Oh yeah, it's also an excuse to get a fire extinguisher, helmet, and race seats for your Boxster!

Ohio Boxster--the list is too funny..

and accurate.

DE= Driver education--just like Randall said. Nelson's Ledges track has what they call a fun day--no instructors, no tech, you just bring your car and a helmet and go around the track.

The EBR Porsche club, which we belong to, had a DE there earlier this year and my wife and I both drove the new car and had a great time. these get to be addicting..

I've attached the link if you think you might have an interest; we're going on 10/14,weather permitting.

My recollection is that for $5 ..

you can enter the track area and watch the event. I can bring an extra helmet and you're welcome to ride with me if you want.

Ok gentlemen, it's on. I bought my ticket and have most of the day to look at your Porsches, ride in them, ooh and ahh over a supercharged engine (and I mean that literally, not as a joke!) and have a nice relaxing lunch with you all.

Please do not make fun of my rental car. I got the cheapest one I could get and I think it's a Hundai or a Corolla. The Mustang GT Shelby that Hertz had was a whopping 195.00 a day and while I thought it would be fun to show up in it, the wife had this frown on her face when I showed her what I wanted to rent. She made a good point. Why not take all that cash and save it for a SC kit?

The voice of sound reason speaks again, and it's not the little voice in my head!

So what's left now is what time we will meet and where. Someone nail it down and I'll be there.
