I've used Marvel Mystery Oil to quiet a sticky lifter (when I replaced my 01 motor.) It took care of the lifter well.

Are you sure it's one of the tensioners making noise?

If it is, from what I understand tensioners are easy to replace. I wouldn't take any chances with some additive. If the tensioner gets worse, it could allow the chain to skip time and then you're looking at some serious issues.

Lucas oil additive

No, therein lies the problem. Don’t know fir sure. 88k miles, Mobil 1 FS 0w40 every 5k, car driven by responsible adult since new. Shouldn’t have internal engine problems But, noise is only for 1-2 seconds and not real noisy, just enough to get your attention. I’ll get it checked by Indie . Thanks so much y

I too have used MMO for years. First on a '69 MGB all the way through to the Boxster. I started using to quite some lifters and simply continued. I remove about a quart of oil at 3,000 miles and replace with a quart of MMO. I run it for another 500 miles and then do a complete oil change. I posted my last oil/engine analysis on the "What did you do with your Boxster today" thread so check out my improvement over time. Have never used Lucas or any other additive.

A lot of people will claim it's snake oil but I also have the link where Jake Raby talks about how he has saved many an engine using MMO which was a good enough recommendation for me. So far...so good.
