Are Boxsters 50 state cars?

Will Boxsters straight from the factory sold at another state pass CA smog test? I’m looking at a car in Oregon that I like but it’s a hundred miles away from the nearest CA smog station. I don’t want to buy it unless it can pass smog and of course the seller won’t let me take it to CA to test. What to do?

Should be okay. Things to investigate though, how many miles on it? Has it been modified, i.e. exhaust, cats, (4) O2 sensors all intact? How current are the rest of the standard maintenance items? How clear a picture do you have of the maintenance history? Which owner # are you? Why are they selling? You should really have a PPI done. They can check for over-revs, O2 sensor readings, any pending CEL, etc. Get it up on a lift and check underneath.

IMO, if the seller isn't overly transparent, walk away. Difficult sellers are usually hiding something. Parts are too expensive and California can be difficult to pass smog. Good luck, safe travels.

Should be fine if it is stock, but a bigger problem can be getting through CA DMV registration from out of state. It took about 6 months for me with a Cayman that was originally sold in CA, bought and refurbished for 3 months in AZ, and purchased there.

There are private DMV processors that charge $100 and will do it for you in one week. I recommend using one of hem.

Bought my 2000 Box in 2003 in Oregon & drove back to CA where I had 30 days to register it at DMV. It passed the smog check a few days before time was up & I had no issues at the DMV inspection.

I just removed my primary Cat's to install hi-po manifolds if you need a good set for CA smog test.

When it was new there is a emissions compliance sticker on the trunk lid that shows what equipment it was manufactured with. CA will look at that when you register it at DMV.
