OBD Scanner
 

Can someone please recommend an ODB Scanner for a Boxster S. I would need to be able to read fault codes as well as reset them.

A Foxwell 520 will give you live data and allow you to reset OBDII codes.
They run about $175.00

If you are not lookig to get Porsche specific codes, you can use any OBD reader. You can fiond them on amazon and ebay that connect to your cellphine for under $20.

If you want the extended Porsche codes and some other abilities for a Porsche, you will need at least a Durametric

I think you will be very happy with it.
It will do very close to everything the Durametric will do.
With very few exceptions.
I was even able to reset my airbag light with it.

serious question...
I have the durametric, considered it a no brainer with having the ability to save files and share stats important for troubleshooting and the live graphs are pretty cool, but to be honest, I still dont know exactly how to use the Durametric.
why the Foxwell 520, any benefit in having both?

First the Foxwell will do almost everything the Durametric can do with a few exceptions.
The Foxwell is less expensive $155.00 VS $300 plus for the Durametric.
With the Foxwell there is no limit on the number of Porsche's you can scan.
The Durametric only allows scanning of three different Porsche's unless you buy the PRO model which is $700.00plus.
With the Foxwell you can add any other manufacture of car and get the ability to scan OBDII and manufacture specific codes, tests what ever . the soft ware is $60.00 per manufacture.

I have both the Foxwell and the Durametric PRO. The only reason I have the Durametric is because I added in cruise control and no one, Dealers or otherwise could enable it on my 2000S. So I got the Durametric and did it myself. If it wasn't for that reason I would just have the Foxwell.

FYI: the Autel DiagLink does everything the Foxwell can, costs $95, comes with one car manufacturer and additional manufacturers are only $10.

Or the Autel MD802, which is the same as the DiagLink but comes with every car manufacturer, for $160.

I bought a Durametric to enable OBC (on board computer). Done.

Since I've had it I've only needed to diagnose one check engine code ... it was for secondary air and apparently a fluke, since since I cleared it it hasn't returned (in 6 months)
