Indy repair shops

Have worked now 3 yrs on project 986 and all my research online I keep hearing people referring to their Indy shops or their "Indy guy". My question is what are they talking about is this chain repair shop or code for something else? I live in Orlando Fl. have never seen or heard of these shop is this a regional thing may up north welcome any replies, just curious.

It just means a Porsche mechanic who is not the dealership.

I have always translated INDY to mean Independent.
