Can't figure where these drops are coming from
 

Working on the ignition switch - i see these drops and stains on my carpet, they are dry. I can't find a potential source, would seem to come from above but it's all dry up there and I don't see a suspect. Anyone ever see this and figure it out?http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1560556959.jpg

My guess: bad brake main cylinder. Brake fluid leaking along shaft going to brake pedal.

That would make sense. Just checked the back side of brake shaft, dry as a bone and clean as can be, no residue. I've experienced no braking issues.. but your thoughts really align. Thank you.

Clutch cylinder too, yes?

If it's dry and everything else is dry, it may be something old that was probably repaired already.
It's not like you stick your head down there every day, it could have been there all along, you just never noticed it. Have you owned the car since it was new? Maybe it was an issue that was taken care of by the previous owner. Maybe a brake or clutch master cylinder, as previously mentioned, that had been repaired a while ago.

My suggestion is check it periodically and see if you catch it when its wet. If it never changes, then it's most likely an old issue.

I've owned the car from day 1, actually ordered it with specific options. No issues with my brakes and I've always done my own fluid flushing. Something I will keep a close eye on.

Well, that blows away my theory. I guess keep checking it periodically and hope to catch it when it's wet. Maybe run a hose over the windshield and see if drops of water find their way in. Just grabbing at straws here.

Did you us any lube, spray, oil while working on the ignition switch.?

It really looks like it is coming off the brake pedal in motion. If it's brake/clutch fluid, it will still be oily to touch and or smell? If its water based, it should wipe off easily with a hot damp cloth?

Maybe something from a shoe? Perhaps inadvertently stepped in a spilled gas puddle and brought it in? You would smell that though... odd.

Maybe it was leaking from the AC condensate that stained the carpet. When my drain was blocked up with green foam from the blend door, condensate would drip on my foot once in a while. Just a thought.

I still think it may be from the master cylinder. Start the car and press the brake pedal as hard as you can for several seconds. I would place a paper towel under the brake pedal so new drops are easy to spot. Leave it there for several hours allowing any possible brake fluid to drip.

So tell us how the replacement of the switch went ? By your post you were up close and personal with the drivers foot well.

I can't do it. I'm just too stiff and can't contort myself to accomplish this. Over the weekend I attempted at least 10 times, before putting the harness back onto the switch. I have purchased every possible screwdriver and still I'm unable to. What I have't done yet is to remove the left side vent part of the dash. Going to get my son over for a try, he's smaller and far more flexible than I.

For me, this job really sucks!
