Does anyone know what's causing this?
Hello all,
I went to change the air filter and saw oil residue all over one of the intake tubes. My first thought was power steering overflow, but the power steering cap & reservoir look dry. Any idea where this oil is coming form? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1560426927.jpg Thanks in advance! |
Looks like a decade of accumulated grime. Get some engine degreaser, apply liberally, and wash carefully (low pressure). You might check around the AOS to see if it's particularly oily there, indicating it is in need of replacement.

After the engine degreaser, I would use Simply Green to remove any oily residue and "low pressure" water as suggested by Husker Regarding the oil leak, on my 987CS the power steering reservoir has two pieces (top and bottom) the leak could be from there, or from the cross plenum main intake tube (resonator..?) Once you clean everything, you should be able to see it :) PS: How does the AC hoses look like? |
Thank you both. I'll start by cleaning it up. I didn't notice the A/C lines, but I'll check them, maybe over the weekend.
Thanks! |
While you have the engine in service mode, check the power steering fluid level. Chances are it's low as most people skip checking b/c it's such a pain in the a$$. Be sure to use the proper fluid (Pentosin CHF 11s), not some garden variety fluid.
