Replacing CD Storage thing

Hi all,

Looking for ideas and suchlike for what to do with the frankly superflous cd storage thingybob which sits at the top of the bottom section of the centre dash.

What have you guys/gals done to it/replaced it with?

Any part numbers for it to be replaced with another hole like the one underneath it? I'm assuming it isn't the same one as it looks to be slightly less tapered.

(would this fit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-Boxster-911-986-Centre-Console-Lower-Storage-Tray-99655224301/401756790725 ?)

That'll do it.

I sent my cubby to PW... and he installed a motion sensor and LEDs in it. When I reach into the cubby to retrieve my drugs the LEDs illuminate them.

hah that sounds pretty cool. i'm guessing PW is a place in the US?

Are you sure that the linked item will fit in there? as it does seem to be tapered .. the cd tray box seems to be rather rectangle in shape. the item is described as lower storage tray, so thats what makes me unsure... and i'm not sure what the other one would be called.

ok i think it is part number 9965522530101C
so the one in the ebay listing is for the bottom part and not what i need.

can't seem to find any used ones of these on ebay and i'm not desperate enough right now to spend £55 on replacing it. :(

you could do the equally worthless and fragile cup holders, or make room for a double-din, then speakers, amps, etc...:+)

yeah, i'm not too fussed about getting a double din, the cost involved with
a) getting one thats half decent enough to justify doing it in the first place (ie android auto, sd slot etc)
b) cost of the surrounds for double din and climate unit
c) presumably new amp since I read that most head units wont work with the MOST amp cos of the fact it is optical??
d) the faff with fixing it all up.

i've just got a radio transmitter and bluetooth transmitter so i'm combining them to make a budget bluetooth receiver on my existing cdr23 :)

so, the cupholder then...

I believe the part you are looking for is #996-552-253-01-01
Can be found here: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-porsche-parts/radio-delete-shelf-satin-black/9965522530101c/

I replaced my cd tray with this storage shelf - much more functional.

Sorry I don't have a pic handy right now, but you've done virtually the same thing I did. Double DIN Pioneer unit, storage shelf, and AC controls all just the same. I replaced the cigarette lighter with a dual USB charger that fits in the round opening, and on the other side, a USB and Aux jack for the stereo (that also is made to fit in a round cigar lighter opening).

Right now I'm making another change: I'm about to install a wireless charging pad in the storage shelf (as long as there's about 10mm of space between the shelf and the AC controls below), and connect a Carplay2 Air to the rear USB of the stereo. The USB/Aux jack thing is going to be replaced by a Porsche non-smoker power outlet, and the dual USB charger will remain.

Here's a pic.

I'm putting the wireless charger write up on it's own thread.
