Engine swap cost
I may be purchasing a rebuilt motor for my 2000 base Boxster. The rebuild comes with a new water pump and oil cooler, the rest has to be transferred from old to new + fluids. What should I expect to pay to install this motor? Was just given a rough estimate of $2500. Does that seem in the ballpark?

I think this depends on what you do while you're in there. Clutch/flywheel.
THSTONE has this does this all the time -- :-) The fluids/AC recharge will cost you ~$500 at a shop, so $2500 is probably not unreasonable for a California shop. Mike |
Normally, the a/c stays with the car so shouldn’t need to be recharged. I have just finished swapping all the peripherals onto my new engine (you can see the process on my YouTube channel). It is time consuming and requires a number of new seals and bolts, as well as the fluids.

For a straight engine swap plus consumables, the cost really should be well less than $2,000. $2500 is certainly on the high side. |
