Steering noise

Just drove 300 miles over 2 day. Car ran better and better. I get home and the steering is now making a grinding noise at certain points when being turned. Not all the way through, sporadically when turning either way.
Any guesses? It was raining the whole ride home if that means anything 120 miles or so. 2000 box S

Sounds like steering oil being lower than recommenced. Try to access the engine compartment and check it. There are many online videos that you can check on how to do it

Mine does that every once in awhile, usually when its really hot out but only when i am parking. Strange but happens once then no more noises for 3 months then it happens once then gone again. Mechanic cant find anything wrong.

Agreed, check the power steering fluid level.

Thank you.

Wondering. When I left the hotel, leaving the parking lot I scrapped the bottom going over a speed bump on the top of the ramp. Now I knew it might happen so I went over super slow. As soon as I heard it hit I backed up. Anything steering related I could have hit? Again, I drove 100 + miles home, business as usual. Thanks.

Mine groans during low speed turns after I drive for a while. Works fine, fluid checks out (reservoir is so small anyways). I'm suspecting the pump is having difficulties with low pressure. One more thing to add to the list

Yes. Also maybe that steering fluid is contaminated, after all these years, losing a lot of it’s good oily stuff. Mine does the same sometimes, and when I checked the fluid it was yellowish-brown and very very light green. The normal fluid is supposed to be strong green. Next step is to flush it and fill it with the Pentosin( which I bought for 20€ 1lt)

I added a very small amount to get the level to where it should be. Seems good now. Does the fluid get old from use or age. Car has 55k. Thanks guys.
