What to do? My boxster died!

Hey
My 2000s is in need of a major rebuild, scored cylinders. . $15000 or so. I'm looking at a 2005 for $11000. PPi is being done now. How do 2005s stack up in the major engine failure dept? IMS etc. Am I just buying another hand grenade? Should I fix the 2000, I love it, and wind up with a new engine? Help !

2005 has same issues.

Put in a junkyard 3.2 for 5500 and keep driving

Another option would be to find a good used motor for around $3000-$4000.

Buy BYProdriver's rebuilt 3.2 with the 3.6 LN Nickies conversion that he's had for sale for a while. I had my 2003 S engine similarly rebuilt after its IMSB failure. Just completed the break-in and had the oil changed and it looked over, and am loving it to death! If my car was a 2002 or earlier his motor would have worked for me and I would have jumped on it. But in 2003 Porsche went to a 3 timing chain engine and different variocam and ECU so it wouldn't work.

many thanks, i'll check it out. Any thoughts on the cost of swapping the motors?

~$1500 for a same engine swap. Expect another $500 for new oil, filter, coolant, plugs, filter, etc.

Well, I wound up taking the easy way out. I bought the 2005. So i now have two boxsters. Is too early for an intervention?
Thanks for all your input.
