how much oil does your Boxster use between oil changes?

My Boxster with 108,000 miles seems to me to be really good on oil consumption. For about 2500 miles the car used no oil at all. I checked the gauge on the dash, and the dipstick. And that is in commute traffic. Wife and I took the car out with the local PCA over the weekend where we put 600 miles on the car over a 3 day weekend. A lot of that weekend was "spirited' driving through the back country. In that weekend the Boxster consumed just about an 1/8th of a quart of oil.

I know oil change intervals here vary, I change mine at 4k. So would that be considered a normal amount of oil consumption? My Mustang drinks almost a full quart between oil changes and it has 26,000 miles. Where as my Sister's F150 uses almost 2 quarts between oil changes, but it has 160,000 miles on it.

I change my oil about 5k miles, doesn't use enough oil to need to add any.

Read an article in motor trend about the new gt350 mustangs using a quart per 500 miles i think it was, basically oil and gas same time.

104k miles, change my oil every 5k miles or annually. I have never had to add oil between oil changes (knock on wood), if my 986 burns/leaks any oil it is negligible.

With approximately 4k between changes I will use about a quart.

I haven't had my Boxster long enough to see any consumption, but my Silverado seems to need a drink between changes. I think part of the reason is the 0W-20W spec. I'm using 5W-40 in the Porsche & BMW, but then, they are about 20 years old, too!

I'm at about 101,500 on the odometer (2001 S), and change the oil/filter annually (about 5K miles, sometimes a little more). I keep checking from time to time (expecting to eventually start burning at least a little oil), but I've never had to add any between oil changes.

I know I'm not leaking any, since (as I mentioned in a post a year or two ago) I've still got the same piece of cardboard in the garage, under the engine; I've had it there for years and years---there's never been a drop of oil on it.

Approximately 5-8 hours of track time in between oil changes. All above 5K rpm with every acceleration to redline. Zero oil used. Its always right where I filled it after the last oil change.

1 year of ownership on my 04 Boxster S abt 5k miles zero oil added between changes.

Deserion 05-01-2019 03:43 AM

As far as I can remember (if my memory is holding up), I've never needed to add between changes. Currently at 120k.

@ 104k miles - Change twice/year, these days that's like 1500 - 2000 miles between. I have never had to add other than right after change to zero in to where I want it.

A couple years back I had some seepage between motor and trans. maybe a drop or two hit the floor right after an oil change. That stopped after the next oil change and has been dry since.

Aren't these GREAT machines??

In the 6 years I have had my 03 S I've never had to add oil between changes which are done once a year at approximately 3,500 miles.

Zero for me as well...

Ciao 05-01-2019 08:17 AM

Zero oil used between oil changes

I beginning to think that because these cars have so much oil that we may be losing an 1/8 - 1/4+ of a quart but can't really notice it. My SUV only takes 5 quarts and you see very quickly when it starts to digest it.

Steelepuls 05-01-2019 07:47 PM

My 01 S with 100k miles, it seems to take about half a quart when it nears the time to change the oil. About 4-5000 miles I start to see the meter drop a few lines.

palmhero 05-04-2019 12:54 AM

is there any big difference between different oil filter manufacturers?
Ridex, Bosch, JP, Denckermann, Champion, UFI, Vaico, Stark. They're endless...

Yes..

....over here in the Colonies, we like Napa Gold and Wix and K&N oil filters.
