97, 986 manual trans, self acceleration

So last week on my Thursday drive to work the car started auto accelerating between 1000 - 2500 rpms repeatedly. Got to my office and my buddy that has a body shop across my bay heard me pull in and asked why I was accelerating it like that. After informing him that it was doing it on its own he asked me for the key and pulled it in to the shop.

Dissembled the throttle body hoses and checked the intake port and although signs of carbon build up were present, the throttle body appeared to be operating normally. No oil was present either so we dismissed a possible AOS issue as well. Car didn’t have a check engine light on either so no codes were being shown. After a few minutes and removing the MAF sensor the car somewhat idled normally. Reintroduced the MAF sensor and it started auto accelerating again.

Installed new OEM Bosch MAF sensor purchased locally and now we had a check engine light and still auto accelerating.

After clearing codes and running for a couple miles at high rpms, the car started functioning better than before.

Codes still clear and running steady after 100 miles.
