Scheduled maintenance question for new Boxster owner
I am a new Porsche owner and have a 2015 Boxster (Base, automatic transmission), I bought it "certified" from a dealer with 19,000 miles and have had it for slightly less than a year. I have driven only 1,200 miles and had no problems whatsoever. I now notice the scheduled maintenance message. Given the limited usage, is this something I have to do per the recommended maintenance schedule? I do not expect to drive more than 5,000 miles this year. Thanks for your advice.

I certainly would.
You have no idea when the oil was last changed, or if it was ever changed. Every used car I ever bought I immediately changed the oil so I knew for certain what oil was in it and when it was changed. Cheap enough insurance. |
What scheduled maintenance? With 19K miles it could be air filter, pollen filter, oil change, oil filter change, brake lines bled, etc.

I would religiously have the oil and filter changed once a year whether it needs it or not (it does.) There should be a maintenance record and schedule that came with the car, just go by that and don't put off any of the recommendations. A 2015, you paid a buttload for it, protect your investment. It'll pay off with better service from the car and protect the eventual resale value.
Welcome! |
To maintain its certified status, you follow the schedule religiously. Doesn't mean you have to have a dealer do it but it does save hassles if something bad should happen and you need to assemble all your proof. You want that protection.
BTW, low miles per year isn't a good thing for a car. Frequent long runs with gradual warm up and then exercise it. Burn off the condensation in the crankcase. |
Thanks for your input. I will follow your advice and schedule my service.

If you daily driving a 986, and given the oil being used in the Mobil 1 synthetic, would one change the oil every 5k?
