Suspension - need help
I am in deep water here. I bought a 2001 Boxster S with sports suspension. I thought previous owner on top of that had installed H&R springs because the car sits ridiculously low. So I found original OEM sport struts complete with springs ready to install thinking this would raise the car about an inch which would be perfect. Now that I have taken it all apart it seems that the OEM struts and the ones that were on the car is exactly the same length. Now I am lost for ideas.
What do I do to raise the car about an inch? Is it on ebay again looking for OEM non-sport struts? Going after a coil over kit? Will I be able to raise the car with that? If so, which kit is recommended - car is primarily for road use and not track. Other good ideas? I hope you can help. While i wait for answers I will ******************** and moan over the brake caliber bolt that tore the inside of the wheel carriers M10 threads so I need to find one of those as well :-( |
Are you comparing the struts that were in the car with the struts you just bought, both of them out of the car? When the struts are not compressed by the weight of the car, they will be the same length (unless the springs are ridiculously short), because of the spring's preload.
Do the springs look the same between the different sets? Pictures would be good, so the experts here can try to figure out what is going on. It's possible you do have lowering springs that came on the car, or they are stock springs that have been cut. |
The springs generally determine the ride height (not the struts).
Compare the H&R springs with the springs on the OEM sport struts. That should give you a better idea of the general ride height difference (it won't be exact because the stiffness may also be different). |
There are 2 versions of the M030 sport suspension
US and ROW The ROW version sit around 20mm lower IIRC There is color coding on the springs to let you know whice ones there are if they are Porsche springs |

I believe that the H&R springs also lower the car considerable (1.5"..?)

Problem solved. It was H&R springs when i bought the car and have installed original springs with color code Yellow/Brown.
Thanks for the advice |
