I also put a soft cloth in the fold to help protect it

Great idea!

I normally clean the window before dropping the top, this reduces the grit if the plastic is rubbing against itself. But I like your idea better.

As for the chop... I learned that technique too late and the hard way. I cracked my first rear window when it was ~40 degrees F. Now I never drop the top when it gets below 50 degrees... LOL.

I always chop the top, and try to avoid folding it below 70° F, or at least at a temperature where the plastic is malleable.

I also bought a kit to clean and condition the rear plastic window. Each spring I use it. That window cost me $450 to replace so I want it to last. I live in the NE I put the top down in spring and put the speedster humps on and take them off in the fall and put the top up for winter always garaged. I have a 99
