PS4S is $60 more each than the PSS!
I can't believe it! I've used nothing but PSS for 5 years and now I just found out the successor adds $60 per tire. Ugh - what a disappointment.
So time to look at alternatives. The Continental ExtremeContact Sport is the same price as the old PSS. Think I might go that route instead. Anybody else discover the price increase and switch brands - any experiences after running PSS? |
When Michelin introduced the S4S, they emphasized that they spent a lot of time addressing / improving any shortcomings the PSS had. All that testing to improve costs $$$. Experimenting with compounds isn't cheap either. Advancing the bar comes with a price.
You'll need to describe how you drive, the conditions, etc. Do you do DEs? These things factor into finding the proper tire. I switched from PSSs to the Conti Extreme a few yrs ago, not because it was a better tire but there was a shortage of PSSs and baby needed a new pair of shoes for COTA. The Extreme is a great street tire and excellent in the rain. It is not as good as the PSS on the track. If all you do is drive on the street, along with some spirited fun runs, the Extreme will be a fine replacement. |
I've run both and.....
...this tire test between the two really sums it up perfectly.

The Continental DWS is a great tire, I have them on my Audi, but they are in no way a performance tire that matches the PSS. However, the DWS have a 50k mile warranty, the PSS 15k. When I needed new shoes on my 986 I went with a Falken tire, and while I am satisfied with the way they drive, they are in no way a match for the Michelin. But again, in everyday driving, do we need the Michelin price tag?

1,825 days. (5 year's worth)
$60/1,825 days = $0.033 cents per day. Rally, this has you all worked up? |

1,825 days * 140 miles a day (daily commute) = 255,500 miles. From where are you pulling the 1,825 days? Would that be for how long you expect the tires to last? 5 years? Context please. |
We still don't know OP's needs / driving requirements. All discussion is at a 30K foot level without his details.

I buy nothing but Michelin, got about 10K miles on a set of PS4S on my wifes Lexus GS F-Sport, no complaints. |
