Interior upgrade
 

I'm new to this forum and a new boxster owner. I would like to replace some interior parts on my 2000 S. Who is the best source to get replacement parts from? (Not talking about the dash or seats) just some of the smaller items have some scratches, etc.

Not to state the obvious but did you try the supporter of this site?

When you see the prices for even things that are discounted you may decide the scratches aren’t so bad or think about repainting some things yourself!

I've gotten several things from Woody (itsnotanova on this forum). He breaks Boxsters and his pricing is very reasonable. He prefers texts :D (512) 925-9171‬

Check craigslist. There are always cars there being parted out. I just picked up a clamshell in Meridian Silver since mine had clear coat failing. I not only look in my area, but areas where friends and relatives live or areas that I plan on traveling to.
There are also guys here on this forum that are parting cars. Post up want and needs in the Parts classifieds.

Thanks for the input. I did check the Pelican site and did not see what I was searching for. I 'll check again. I never did think about repairing/painting. I suppose the plastic parts are perhaps dyed instead of painted?

auto-atlanta.com is a good source and factory diagrams to help you find the correct PN. Remove the hyphen, I put it there so the name displays.

Click "More Models" at the top of the page and then browse factory diagrams for Boxster's.

Once you have the PN, check availability/pricing at Pelican.

I'm guessing that your door covers and center console are scratched up? Welcome to owning a Porsche made after 1999. That soft touch paint scratches if you even look at it wrong. It's total crap. You'll be very lucky to find any used parts that aren't scratched. If you do find some pristine used parts on ebay, the paint itself is 14-18 years old and has lost any chance of being durable. New is great, but you'll pay an arm and a leg for 2000-04 interior parts. I highly recommend repainting the pieces you have.

This is my first post so bear with me. I had scratches in common places on my '01 S.
It's not a big job to refresh the interior.
Lift the door cubbys and remove the pins holding the hinges on by using a small steel rod, then grab them with needle nosed plyers and gently remove them. Be careful sliding the spring out. ( take a picture first ) There are four small spacers in each hinge, if you drop one in the door or on the floor , pick it up and put it in a zip lock bag.
Next watch Pauls video on YouTube on how to remove the console. It's seven torx screws, take your time and be gentle. It will come out.
Once out put on latex cloves so the oil on your finger tips doesn't touch the plastic at any time. Ever!
Sand the plastic parts 220 grit paper, the scratches will disappear in short order. Wipe with a tack cloth. ( paint store ) Use flat black Krylon colormaster paint. It's a perfect match and designed for plastic. Three light coats. Wipe with tack cloth in between. it takes two days to paint parts. You will be happy with the result. Take your time installing parts. Don't force anything. Its a lot easier if you remove the passenger seat. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1545224115.jpg

Sorry, use 600 grit sandpaper , not 220 on the plastic parts.

Try Parts Heaven Porsche in Hayward, CA. They are a Porsche only wrecker with three warehouses of Porsche greatness. I got to tour the place, it's impressive.

Yeah, it’s pretty easy to refurb these interiors with a little elbow grease and a good rattle can. The factory paint is called a “soft touch” paint and it’s is more of a coating than a paint. It must be removed COMPLETLEY before painting to assure good adhesion. A hot water soak and some sandpaper are your friends here...

I have a 99 didn't like the black so painted Arctic Silver to match the exterior
